Artist, Maro Gorky, daughter of Abstract Expressionist painter, Arshille Gorky, and husband, sculptor, Matthew Spender, son of poet, Stephen Spender, settled years ago in a rustic Tuscan hilltop home to raise their family and pursue their passions in Bohemian style. A coming-of-age movie "Stealing Beauty" by friend, Bernardo Bertolucci, celebrates their Italian life. I happened to see just the end of the movie--

  10. If it wasn't for the writing "From a High Place: A Life of Arshile Gorky" by Matthew Spender I most likely wouldn't be writing this script.
Provenance: to this art collector it means everything :
Many have asked me (Tycoon) "why don't you sell the art you've collected for over forty years?", it's simple. With every thought of what might have been going through the mind of the creator of a work of art, appreciation on the other end is the final thought.
To Matthew and your lovely wife Maro Gorky Spender, I can feel the passion in every word that I have read within the book "''From a High Place: A Life of Arshile Gorky,''. It struck a nerve within me, when I read of John Hussian cousin of Arshile Gorky, having read of his art and feelings that both he and Gorky had for Armenia prior to the Turks destruction and genocide, I too was in tears.Being the only one left of a family that was eight having fought against the disease "Cystic Fibrosis" and lost, my escape has alway's been art.The paintings of the late twenties or early thirties of the villages that Hussian and Gorky painted from memory, along with works by Arshile Gorky had been stored, tucked away safely, by my mother who introduced me to "Art". I am not an art dealer, I am a well listed art exhibitor, having held exhibits of well listed sculptors such as Hungarian artist Miklos Sebek, Judith Peck, Jim Gary as well expressionist Vincent Nardone, Realist Louis Riccio, International Artist Tamar Hirschel. I recently underwent open heart surgery and will be opening another Gallery in Spring Lake, NJ. I own another collection of art by Norwegian Artist Bernhard Wahl, also tucked away for forty years. It would be an honor to somehow find a way to exhibit your work as well as that of Maro and perhaps hold a book signing as well. If you google Tycoon Galleries or Spring Lake Art Gallery, NJ it will take you to my website. Again, thank you for your wonderful work of art, "Tycoon".

  12. in watching the film 'stealing beauty' on cable yesterday, it was the beauty of your sculptures and frescoes that stole my attention... i found myself much more interested in the terracotta people than the live ones... and, as lovely as the tuscan landscapes were, that made me want to hop on the next flight to italy, it was the painted walls i kept wanting to see more of than the cinematographer allowed us for too-brief moments now and then...

grazie mille, for opening your home and life's work to the film crew and thus, to the world at large and, ultimately, to me!
