In 1914 Swiss / German painter Paul Klee (1879 - 1940) along with painters, August Macke and Louis Moilliet sailed from Marseilles to Tunis equipped with watercolors, notebooks, camera, and sketchpads. Tunisia was a turning point in Klee's life and career. The limpid light of North Africa awakened Klee's sense of color, shapes, and began his journey to abstraction
