When I saw the folk art paintings by contemporary British artist, John Caple, I was reminded of American folk art and two works in particular--those of the Lacey children, my own ancestors, painted by Milton W. Hopkins (1789 - 1844). These paintings are in the Memorial Art Gallery at the University of Rochester.
