Love them or hate them,
Lilly Pulitzer's iconic eye-popping prints and preppy styles--
Lilly Pulitzer, however, is a free-spirited, American original. She created her first dresses in 1960. Necessity is the mother of invention. Lilly needed something cool and colorful to wear that would also hide the stains from her Palm Beach orange juice stand. Her crisp white shirts just didn't do. So she and her dressmaker designed the original cotton print shift dress. Her Palm Beach customers wanted to buy the dresses--and the rest, as they say, is history.
