Wilhelmina Barns-Graham,- Eight Lines, Wave Rhythms

Wilhelmina Barns-Graham
"Sea Waves and Currents", a series of drawings by Scottish artist Wilhelmina Barns-Graham (1912 - 2004), a pioneer of abstraction in Britain. Wilhelmina was born into a landed, conservative Scottish family not supportive of her early interest in art. But from the age of eight, she knew she was determined to be an artist. In 1940 she moved St. Ives, Cornwall, a center of Modernism, where her studio was next door to the artists Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth.
