French Nabis painter / printmaker Edouard Vuillard (1868 - 1940) painted intimate portraits full of texture and pattern of the private interiors of his wealthy Jewish intellectual patrons. He died in Paris in 1940 of a heart attack, a week after the Germans occupied France.
